"I'm not a typical or traditional "Jazz Musician" - I choose what I want to play and how I want to play it. I respect the tradition of the Jazz Genre, but I gotta do my own thing! I honestly don't think it's worth it to learn hundreds of 'standards' that others wrote, I can be a LOT more productive writing my own music that better fits what instruments I play and the way I play them! So I guess you might hear some jazz in my playing, but you won't hear me playing jazz! I fuse whatever styles of music sound best to me from song to song...I guess that makes me a 'Fusion Musician'."
Aaron attended, via scholarships, both Berklee College of Music in Boston and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. While at Berklee, Aaron played tenor sax and EWI in their Freshman All-Star Combo and Steps/Stern/Scofield Ensemble and studied under world-renowned saxophonist George Garzone. Aaron also studied Electronic Wind Instrument (EWI) with Paul Wagner and ear training with Brazilian vocalist Luciana Sousa. Also, while at Berklee, Aaron undertook a series of master classes by saxophone repairman Emilio Lyons. Learning some of Emilio's tricks on how to set-up saxophones to perform as best as possible and stay regulated longer. Aaron's need for knowledge of the instrument has proven beneficial in many ways.
Some of Aaron's previous teachers include: Curt Eddie, John Bleuel, Michelle Hussey & Gerald Olson - and has enjoyed some great educational experiences with the likes of Saxophonists Joe Lovano and Michael Brecker. Music education is very important to Aaron - "Teaching will always be a part of my life - I feel that it's not only an honor but an obligation. Everything musical is based on common sense and one's creative process, so if I can help others out by passing along some shortcuts, tricks and some of the most vital basics of playing that are most frequently not taught, then I'm doing my job". Some thoughts on playing and musical development are in Aaron's books...
At live shows, you'll not just see Aaron playing his tenor, alto, or soprano sax, but you'll also hear him on EWI (Electronic Wind Instrument) playing hybrid versions of screaming distorted guitar, fretless bass, playing chords and harmonizing on EWI AND on Sax, even taking amazing drum/percussion solos, looping live grooves forward and backwards, you name it!
~ The human ear can hear 10 octaves... Aaron uses OVER EIGHT! ~

Just a few of the artists Aaron has recorded or performed with include: bassists Ken Garrett, Bill Dickens, T.M.
