Holland's Most Wanted Sax Player on AMT

Tom Beek is one of the most appealing Dutch sax voices today. His classy and lyrical sax style has made him one of the most in-demand players in the Dutch jazz, pop and fusion scene since the early 90's. Not only has he built an impressive resume as a sideman, he has built a reputation as a band leader too, following his cd's 'White & Blue' (2005) and 'Live under the Sun' (2007), that receive wide critical and public acclaim. His most active bands (as a sideman) include club-jazz sensation The Jazzinvaders, and fusion all-star group The Pitch Pine Project. The dream of becoming a jazz musician is ignited by among others, these records: 'Someday my prince will come, 'Live a the Plugged Nickel' and 'Decoy' (Miles Davis), 'Saxophone Colossus' (Sonny Rollins), 'Straphangin'' (Brecker Bro's.), 'Steps' (Steps Ahead), 'Still Warm' (John Scofield), 'Straight from the heart' (David Sanborn) and 'Bring on the Night' (Sting). One of the strongest influences from that time is Dutch sax player Toon Roos, whom Tom took some lessons with. (Although most of the lesson time actually was spent dancing on Jaco Pastorius' records and singing George Coleman solos).

Inspired by one of his heroes Michael Brecker, Tom decides to play the EWI in 1993. This is his point of departure in the world of synthesizers, computers and sound design. Building and his own collection of gear, he gets to play, write and produce a lot of AV-music (radio- and tv-commercials, tv-tunes etc.) in the following years. He still does this a lot in his Mac-based studio.

Tom's broad and sincere musical interest opens doors to all kinds of musical styles, from studio sessions to jazz festivals, from theaters to big concert halls. Still, he likes playing in jazz clubs the most. Tom encounters and works with almost anybody in the Dutch music scene (except for some local gothic trash rock groups AND anything that people might associate Tom with line-dancing, that is). Also, he has toured a lot worldwide. His main focus still is jazz above all, although by now he probably touched every thinkable musical ground. And of course, there's a lot more to come.... having worked on his own songs, and determined to build an audience all his own, Tom gets stronger every day and continues to leave his imprint in the world of music, in his own way: classy, distinguishable and passionate.

Tom performed with jazz legends like Dizzy Gillespie, Pat Metheny, Joe Lovano, Randy Brecker, Tom Harrell and Bill Evans (sax), and performed on the woprl famous North Sea Jazz Festival in 1994, 1995, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008.

We are proud that Tom (after extensive testing) preferred his new AMT mic over lots of other brands, and look forward seeing him on stage worldwide.
